The ONECPD SEND Conference took place in Salford on Wednesday 14th November. After both exhibiting and running a Thrive seminar, our Relationship Manager for Wales, Joey Bowers, talks to us about his time at the event.
We were proud to be the main sponsor of this year’s Special Educational Needs Conference hosted by ONECPD Salford Professional Development.
As more schools and educational settings are adopting Thrive, professionals are recognising the impact that our Approach has when working with children and young people with SEND, whether in mainstream or a specialist setting. Our inclusive, child centred approach focuses on an understanding of the body’s stress management system and the use of sensory experiences. This lends itself well to working with children with SEND.
During the SEND Conference, we exhibited and had the opportunity to speak to hundreds of professionals from the education sector. They are all dedicated to providing the best education for children and wanted to find out more about how Thrive can benefit children with SEND.
I was privileged to deliver a seminar during the event. Due to the interest in Thrive, the majority of delegates attended this seminar. During the seminar, I spoke about the solid underpinning of Thrive, both in neuroscience and attachment theory, and explained how this is put into practice through the 6 developmental strands model. Delegates greatly enjoyed the session and were afterwards keen to find out more about the work we do. We had some really exciting conversations with delegates from regional health authorities, keen to embed the Thrive Approach within Health and Social Care.
As a regional team, we spend much of our time in schools. We are often asked if Thrive works for children with SEND; time and time again we are seeing that it does.
